Back in 1989, a movie called “Field of Dreams” imagined what a baseball field could do to one family. Today, there likely aren’t enough cornfields to recreate those famous cinema scenes, but there is a baseball field that will let you camp out overnight with your kids, and that’s pretty great as well.

On Saturday, July 17, the Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers Family Campout will create a one-night only event that will both thrill and put your children to sleep at the same time. The thrill is the game itself, which will pit the USPBL’s Utica Unicorns against the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers in two, six-inning games.

Afterward, you can bring your family for an evening at the ballpark. This free event that requires tickets and pre-registration will feature hours of entertainment and activities after the game. Then, you will set up your tents on the open field for the night. Before you turn in, you can watch a movie under the stars for an outdoor film experience.

In the morning, you will pack up your gear, stretch like you would during the seventh inning of a regular baseball game and take a trip to the continental breakfast area, where there will be an offering of bagels, donuts or the like.

With best-in-class cargo space, top of the line safety features, and cutting edge technology, the Chevy Suburban is perfect for any family. See the Suburban's available features that can keep up with your family's lifestyle.

The game time is 5:30 p.m. and gates open at 4:30 p.m. Limited space is available, so you’ll want to get in on these game tickets and the campout opportunity early. Previous events have sold out quickly because this is something you cannot do at other ballparks.

USPBL is an independent baseball league that started in May 2016. It is based at Jimmy John’s Field in Utica. The field is located at 7171 Auburn Road with an overall seat capacity of about 4,500. For the campout, there is room for a few hundred families given the size of the field and the tent spaces.

Four teams regularly play in the USPBL. They are: the Utica Unicorns, which have been around since 2016; the Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers, also in play since 2016; the Eastside Diamond Hoppers, which came about in 2016; and the Westside Wooly Mammoths, which started in 2017.

There will also be a classic rock music party that night, so prepare your young ones with earphones or a perfect vintage rock t-shirt, depending on their love of this style of music. This event will end before the campout begins.

“Field of Dreams” may be a classic movie starring Kevin Costner, but it shows off just how much the game of baseball means to Americans of all ages. Kids will love spending the night on the field because they can get up close with the game itself, learn more about how the field is set up, groomed and used as well as enjoy seeing the people walking around before and after the campout. It promises to be a night that all participants will remember for years to come.
